Congregation Beth Yam Religious School

Judaism teaches us that we, as a community, have the responsibility of educating the next generation of Jews. At Congregation Beth Yam, we provide opportunities for you and your family to be part of an educational community.

Our Religious School educational program is intended to bring forth a generation of Jews that participate knowledgeably and skillfully in synagogue and home observances and who practice being a mensch as the highest articulation of Jewish values.

Congregation Beth Yam conducts a Sunday morning religious school program, including Hebrew studies, for children in pre-kindergarten (Tiny Tots) through seventh grade. In addition, our B'nai Mitzvah students spend a year studying with Rabbi Bloom in preparation for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah. We strive to make Jewish learning relevant and engaging throughout their educational experience. To see a description of the classes, click here.

Our religious school program is strongly oriented to promoting Jewish skills and values through our curriculum:

- Home, Shabbat and Holiday observances.
- Hebrew reading proficiency.
- Synagogue and prayer skills.
- Torah.
- Life-cycle events.
- Israel and world Jewry.
- Weekly youth service.
- Jewish ethics ... and much, much more!
With this in mind, our students and their families are encouraged to participate in a broad range of co-curricular activities, including:

- Monthly Shabbat Family services.
- Student-led Shabbat services.
- Tikkun Olan through a variety of mitzvah and tzedakah projects.
- Mitzvah Day.
- Field trips.
- Model Seders.
- Community celebrations for Sukkot, Simchat Torah, Chanukah, Purim and Pesach.

Tiny Tots Ages 3-5 Yrs.
The Tiny Tots program is a wonderful way to get young children involved with Sunday School. One Sunday each month, parents are invited to bring their young children to the Temple for a special Judaic program designed expressly for 3 to 5 year-olds. The children will be exposed to Jewish subjects, have fun, meet their future classmates, and take part in school-wide programs with the older students. Classes are held once a month from 9 to 11:30 am.

All Religious School classes meet Sunday from 9:30am to 12:00 noon during the school year at the Temple.
