About Our RabbiRabbi Mark L. Covitz became our full-time spiritual leader in July 2002.
His rabbinical career had seen him concentrating on youth work. For the two years before he joined our congregation, he taught Judaic Studies and Hebrew at the Theodor Herzl Day School in Denver, CO. Prior to that he was Director of the Shwayder Camp of Congregation Emanuel, also in Denver. From 1996 through 1998, he served as Regional Advisor to the North American Federation of Temple Youth in Cincinnati, OH. Before his ordination, he served as student Rabbi in West Virginia and Kentucky and directed and taught at several summer camp programs. Rabbi Covitz also has professional experience as an actor and stand-up comedian. He and his wife Stacy are the parents of four young girls. The rabbi has enriched our religious and educational experiences. He's brought a new excitement to Shabbat services, introduced the Night of 100 Menorahs for Chanukah, and presided over our community Seder, performing magic tricks! We hope that you will join us for Shabbat services and meet Rabbi Covitz. To contact Rabbi Covitz, send an e-mail to rabbi@bethyam.org or call the office at 843-689-2178.
